Senior Advisor - Quantitative Research & Multi-Asset Strategy
Larry Zhang is a seasoned investment executive and quantitative strategist whose career spans major public and private investment platforms across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Over more than two decades, he has built and led institutional-grade quantitative teams, global equity strategies, and multi-asset investment processes for some of the world’s largest asset owners and managers.
Larry has served as Chief Investment Officer at Fosun Insurance Group and as Chief Investment Officer at Ping An Asset Management, one of China’s largest insurance-affiliated asset managers. At China Investment Corporation, the country’s sovereign wealth fund, he led the Public Equity Group and served as a member of the Investment Committee, and he has advised China’s National Council for Social Security Fund as a senior advisor. He also serves as a senior advisor to Vivo Capital, a leading biotechnology venture capital firm. Across these roles, he has shaped investment strategy, portfolio construction, and risk management for large institutional pools of capital.
Earlier in his career, Larry was a partner at GSA Capital in London, where he co-founded and co-built global market-neutral strategy groups. Before that, he held senior quantitative research and portfolio management roles at Barclays Global Investors, later acquired by BlackRock, where he helped develop systematic global equity strategies.
Larry holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He brings to Songbird deep expertise in quantitative research, systematic strategy design, and multi-asset portfolio management, along with a global perspective drawn from leadership roles across three continents.
